Don't
worry, your bird will be just fine! At Bird Zone we go out
of our way to make sure your bird will be well cared for
while you are away:
- Your
bird will be fed every day.
- Your
bird will have a clean cage every day.
- Your
bird will have human contact every day.
- Your
bird will have other birds to talk to.
- Your
bird will have a great time!
Requirements
You must show proof of a well-bird exam from an avian
veterinarian within the past year and you must show proof

Wing
Clipping
Please
call us before you bring your bird in for a wing clip or click to view our grooming hours. For
the safety of your bird we recommend clipping your bird's
wings. It does not hurt them, in fact it is like getting
a haircut. There are many ways to clip wings. Some wing
clips are very bad, taking off too many feathers or worse
yet, clipping only one side. At Bird Zone, the number of
feathers we clip varies depending on the type of bird, normally
four to six feathers. We clip only the primary feathers,
which are the feathers that give birds their "lift".
We never clip secondary feathers, since these are what your
bird uses to glide to the ground. With trimmed secondary
feathers birds cannot glide to the ground, they merely drop
like a ball, which could cause physical injury as well as
mental anxiety.
If
you do try to clip your own bird's wing feathers never clip
a blood feather. This is a new feather that is not completely
developed yet.
Nail
Trimming
Have
you ever tried to trim your own bird's nails? If you have
then you know how squirmy your bird is making it hard to
concentrate on clipping a tiny amount off of each of its
eight toenails. We are used to trimming wiggly toenails.
Please call us before you bring your bird in for a toenail
trim
or click to view our grooming hours.
Sexing
At
Bird Zone we can sex your bird safely through DNA feather
sexing. With this accurate and relatively painless method
we just pluck three to five small chest feathers and mail
them off to a laboratory. Results are back in less than
a week!
