Simply put, conures are great little birds. They tame and bond quickly with their owner, can learn to speak more than a few words, and are very funny. The only problem is a loud and shrill voice, and in pairs, they can be downright loud, so a single bird is usually best for a family setting. They are easy to maintain, and can entertain you and themselves for hours. Conures are extremely active, colorful and playful. It is worth your time to check out this bird iif you are looking for a new feathered friend.

Very Colorful Birds

The Sun Conures body color is typically a deep yellow-orange, almost golden, glow. The rest of their plumage is a cacaphony of yellow, orange, red, blue and green colors that are simply brilliant to see.

The birds are approximately 12 inches in length and can live as long as 15 years. As a pet, they are playful, inquisitive, active and curious. They love attention and closeness from their owners.

The bird changes in color over time. At first the young conure is mostly olive green, but at around 6 months, the plumage slowly turns to a yellow-orange coloration and by the end of their first year, they have their full color.

Easy to Care For

These birds are easy to maintain. They need a cage measuring 20 inches wide by 20 inches long by 24 inches high for adequate room. The cage should be placed in a location away from drafts from windows, doors, and heating and air ducts. It is best to choose a cage with perches that are one-half inch in diameter and bars spaced three-quarters to one inch apart so the conures do not get their heads stuck between the bars or damage tail feathers.

Toys

Hanging toys are favorites for conures. They love to climb and hang, so rope toys, chain toys, and toys with hoops or rings are great. Also, since conures like to chew, pick some toys they can chew on and it will help maintain a healthy beak and also save on perches.
